A recent survey done by the marketing agency, Experience 12, found that 97% of people play video games because it is good for wellbeing and benefits mental health. Often video games provide an essential form of relaxation - they are a way to escape the everyday trials and tribulations of life. This is why there are an increasing number of adults that are choosing to step away from the games with an PEGI-18 rating about war and pandemics. Instead they are opting for some thoroughly wholesome games that will only ever bring a smile to your face.
Animal Crossing
The Animal Crossing franchise has been going since 2001, but it’s the latest game in the series, Animal Crossing New Horizons, that has been extremely popular with adults, particularly Millennials. Learning to play Animal Crossing is simple and there are no specific objectives, you just spend time in each of the villages interacting with the cutesy animals and helping with tasks, such as bug catching and fishing. You collect items as you go, which can be exchanged for the in-game currency called Bells. With Bells you can then purchase larger items such as clothing or furniture for a house. Animal Crossing is fun when played solo, but there are also options to play online with friends and as a team, and the more often you play, the bigger and better your villages will become.
Overcooked 2
Overcooked 2, the sequel to the original Overcooked game, is available on Nintendo Switch, Xbox, Playstation 4 and 5 and Microsoft Windows. It is a ferociously fast cooking simulation game that works best played as a team cooperatively. The cooking process is complicated further by the interactive environments including moving floors, obstacles, impassable fires and revolving walkways. Just imagine trying to serve a full breakfast menu to impatient customers in a flying hot air balloon caught in a thunderstorm, and you will get the idea of how challenging Overcooked 2 can be. Forget cheese and wine parties, an Overcooked 2 party is even better for grown ups wanting to have fun with their friends.
Untitled Goose Game
Released in 2019, Untitled Goose Game is a bright and colorful puzzle stealth game that is unlike anything else on the market. Players control a goose (or pair of geese) that is terrorizing an English village, by stealing items and generally causing mischief and mayhem. You are given a list of objectives to complete, such as “take apple from picnic basket,” and after completing the objectives, new areas of the game are opened up. Untitled Goose Game has a charming piano soundtrack by the romantic composer, Debussy, that accompanies the honking geese, making the game seem even more slapstick and comical.
PEGI-3 games aren’t just for small children to play. They provide hours of feelgood fun for adults all over the world - the perfect way to enjoy some escapist fun.
